Birthday-Month Theology (the Yankees & ‘Canes Are Winning)

May 18, 1998. That’s when it all started.
Fast-forward 26 years and here I am—grateful, humbled, and surprisingly okay with celebrating a birthday month. Yeah, I said it.

See, some people say only the ladies get to do birthday months. But I’d argue, if you’re in the prime of life, deep in the trenches of ministry, and both your teams are having incredible seasons… why not stretch the celebration?

Let’s review:

  • Yankees – top of the division. Bronx Bombers doing Bronx Bomber things.
  • Hurricanes – second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Storm warning in full effect.
  • Ministry – I’m watching students grow in Christ, ask real questions, and take real steps. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.

Honestly, I don’t take any of this for granted. The older I get (yes, 26, turning 27, is older to the students I serve), the more I realize how fleeting time is. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” I’m numbering mine this month—and celebrating them, too.

So yes—I’m calling May Birthday Month with zero shame. I’m celebrating God’s faithfulness, the friendships I get to do life with, the joy of watching my teams win, and the honor of walking with students toward Jesus.

Let the cake be cut, the Yankees score runs, the Canes hit the ice, and the Kingdom keep advancing.

And if anyone asks… yes, it’s biblical to celebrate birthday month. Just maybe don’t ask for a verse.
